The Creatronic Mega Duck, released as Cougar Boy in South America, is a budget handheld gaming console released in 1993 by Hong Kong-based Timlex International, a division of Welback Holdings. Hardware-wise, it is very similar to the Nintendo Game Boy.
Only 24 cartridges were ever released for the system. While the first title, The Brick Wall, was developed in-house by Timlex, all other Mega Duck games were made by infamous Taiwanese developer Sachen, who released some of them under their Commin label. Due to the platforms’ strong similarities, all games but The Brick Wall ended up being ported to the Game Boy by Sachen after the Mega Duck’s demise.
At the time of this writing, there are only two Mega Duck emulators: MAME and SameDuck, a modified version of SameBoy available only as a libretro core. As of MAME version 0.260, the only game that does not work on it is Duck Adventures, which also is not compatible with SameDuck. Because of that, this item also includes a ROM image for a Game Boy multicart that contains its port. The only known emulators to support it are hhugboy and MAME’s Game Boy driver.
